It almost constantly takes shortcuts when processing information and when responding. Sometimes, the mind becomes very reactive. It not only jumps to conclusions but carries with those conclusions a strong conviction that they are indisputable truths. The more extreme the conclusion, the more certain it seems to be. However, it is precisely in these moments that the mind is excluding information and taking shortcuts. In these cases, the brain takes a 'shortcut' or heuristic, and jumps to the conclusion it has the most experience with. The problem with predicting conclusions, is that everyone looks like a threat. If you assume you're overreacting, you'll be hurt by those who are dangerous. If you go along with the feeling of constant threats, you'll hurt yourself by isolating yourself, and others by becoming quite judgemental or cold. How can I tell when I'm jumping to conclusions?
